Electric Bikes in SA

Hello

I recently got my learner's motorcycle license and im 16. During the exam i had asked them on the limits of what bikes can be ridden and they said only 125cc for someone with my type of license since i cant find anywhere that there is anything like a horse power limit like in Europe.
I thought what about an electric bike like the Zero bikes to get around the 125cc limit.
Would this be legal or is there a horsepower limit on the bikes that can be ridden with my type of license?

who buys a 16 year old an expensive bike?

buy yourself an older 2 stroke 125cc, thats how you get around it.

Now that is an excellent question! I would suspect that the spirit of that law was to limit the speed a 16 y/o could go on a motorized vehicle by limit engine capacity.
Any transport lawyers here?

Im not buying the bike i already own it, family moved overseas and gave it the us for a very good price

I am a pretty big dude and i have ridden bikes my whole life now. I rode a KTM 125 Duke a while back and the bike was not powerful enough for what i would like.
I understand that kids my age shouldn't be riding liter bikes and stuff that can kill them but i already own the bike and my experience is not that bad ether.
 
i think the law is unclear here in other places it seems to be limited on Watt rating

Very interesting question.

All I can think is there the law hasn’t yet been updated to accommodate for such things.

Likely there is a very specific line in the roads act that specifies petrol based 125cc motorcycle for age 16 and ANY for the full license over 18.

Best would be to get your hands on the actual act and look in there.
