I have double swing gates at the front of my property and only electricity on the one side, the existing cables to power the light on the other side are under the driveway and no longer work and the pipe they are fitted in is thin plastic that is closed up so it doesn't seem possible to replace them easily.

I was wondering if there are some kind of contacts that can be put on each side of the gate (probably near the top) that will meet when the gate is closed, to take power across the gate and then power a light and maybe a security camera on the other side, ac power ideally.

Someone who was quoting my family on an electric fence said they would use something like this, but maybe that would have just been for the electrified fence wires.

Does anyone know of something like this?

I don't really want to dig up the driveway ideally, possibly I will try the method of boring underneath with pvc pipe and water.

BAD idea, Magnums suggestion is pretty good imo, or just channel a new conduit under the bricks, generally i have found in the long run it is better than half measures, what is your driveway? paving?

Im not saying it is not doable. You need safe contacts that will not corrode with rain. you need zero level crossing for arcing. then you need closed isolated conduit for the open contacts for electrocution, in order for some pleb not sticking his fingers in there whilst having a chat to you over the weather when you want to do something else.

Maybe it's not such a good idea I guess, I don't really want the additional cost of solar. I'll find a way to dig underneath or move the paving.

if it is paving it should be fairly simple to lift a row, if you aren't too worried about the look you could always use a grinder and grind out a channel thick enough, drop the conduit in and fill it with cement, if done neatly you wont even notice it after time.

The regulations will bite you if you try any scheme like proposed.
Bite the bullet, dig up the pacing and replace the sleeving with a decent pipe for the future, or cut a grove in the paving.

So it's used at the join between the wall and gate, what about the link between the gates themselves?

No, don't do this

Dig up the driveway and insert a 20mm conduit with bends and put in a draw wire
