So Ekurhuleni have increased their capacity charge per amp from about R1.50 to R8. in the past few months. This means that our electricity bill has gone from an average of R1800 to R3800.
My wife is adamant that it is our landlords responsibility to pay the extra R2000 p/m because it is his building and the 3 phase / 120 amps per phase is something we inherited with the building and do not use/need.
I'm not so sure. Our contract with him states that in addition to the rentals all usage must be payed..
To avoid this cost going forward we can get an electrician (not the council) to lower the amps on each phase to 80A so that the total is below 240A. 240A and below does not attract Capacity Charge.
Again my wife is adamant that the landlord should pay for the electrician. I say that if we did any other alteration to the building we would need the landlords approval, but we would pay for the actual work. This is the same thing.
I would love it if we could get the landlord to pay these things, I just don't think its going to happen.
Who is right?
