Electricity Usage

I have no idea how you do it :/

My September was 433kWh and I was trying my best to get it under 400 last month! However, that's still the lowest in the last 12 months which I'm happy about (less 40% from June). In the end the deep freeze was 57.3kWh, so I'd have got to my goal if that wasn't on ;)

Being a new month, I connected a POW to a multiplug and checking it's got a 60" LED, processor, power amplifier and PS4 connected. Curious to see what they do when it use - but on standby I get 13w use.

Can only be that actually - after I try the AV system for a month, I'll try my PCs.

It's just that at the start of this thread many guys used lower with more people - unless they have newer/more efficient geysers ?

Unfortunately most houses have very poor rated geysers installed. That is why it still makes sense to install a geyser blanket and insulate (lag) ALL exposed water pipes. Not just the 1st meter or so from the geyser. All the way to where the pipes disappear into the walls including the incoming cold water line.
That way you are reducing the losses to a minimum regardless of the rating of the geyser installed.
THEN you can start with other measures to reduce geyser energy consumption.

Thanks Geoff.

I'll investigate a geyser blanket.

Home entertainment systems don't use as much as I thought :

Idle/Standby - 13w ish
Processor/Power on - 112w ish
Processor/Power/TV on - 195w ish
Processor/Power/TV and surround movie - 260w ish
Everything and PS4 - 380w ish

So I got my bill from CoJ ... It doesn't correlate to my smart meter. I guess that most people don't and I just happened to because I'm going this.

Anyone had this?

It says 520kWh 6 Sep to 6 Oct and daily average of 16.

How? My daily avg is 25...

Only way to get nearly the same readings is you must ensure your readings are precisely synchronized. Then you will have to start a process to look for power leaks if there is still a significant difference.

Fair enough - I thought about that but the difference just cannot be that much - 90kWh difference in the 6 days.

1 Sep to 1 Oct was 430kWh
6 Sep to 6 Oct was 520kWh

Power leak? Can this be fixed with insulation tape or is it better to get an Electrician to replace wires

Oh my eyes skipped over this ... what's a power leak and how do I check it ?

Did you get it so low... Wish I could

You probably have a larger house / more people / more goodies / cook ;)

I'm a single guy / 2 bedroom / no cooking or pool pump or anything.

I got LED lights everywhere now and made a conscious effort to switch off things (amps / lights / etc). I never used to care before :/ Also both PCs were running on high performance 24/7, so I set eco modes and auto standby on them.

My freezer (that I can't turn off) actually adds 60kWh alone - so lats month could have been 370kWh without it. I'm checking my AV system as we speak and it looks to finish the month on 30kWh. Next month I'll try PCs / printer etc for interest. I reckon then freezer / AV / computers is 25% of my consumption

But I don't really see me ever dropping below 400kWh in a month

Jeez then I don’t feel bad at all. Your almost seems high.

I average about 18kw a day with 2 adults and a baby in the house.

Few consoles and PC in the house but also no pool pump and such.

There is a geyser wise though.

I run my company from home. So have quite a bit of electronics that is always on.

Even so, it's getting crazy expensive to use electricity

Switch off the main cb in your db and then go and see what the council meter is saying your usage is. If that meter is still ticking over you have a power loss somewhere between your db and the council meter.

These days you could be the victim of an illegal connection to your supply.
In complexes where more than one unit is supplied from a common distribution board anything is possible.

Then you can start by cutting all power CBs feeding all appliances etc and check them one by one comparing the meter with your meter.

Family of 5, currently on around 350kWh per month. Used to be about double that but the solar geyser has made a world of difference.

Double family here totaling 6 (flat + house), all adults/young adults. We use about 700-800. No pool, two geysers, gas stove in house, electric in flat.
