With rampant crime in SA, one has to seriously consider home security as you could easily become one of the victims.

We already have solutions like, good neighborhoods, gated estates, burglar bars, electric fence etc.

One thing that I think is quite rare to hear about is electrified windows/door buglars. I guess a lot has to do with fear of getting yourself electrocuted or worse your kids, but when criminals bypass the electric fence and beams that are on the perimeter, to get into the house they have to go through the buglar doors or windows, often using a crow bar to force their way in.

If the windows are electrified with a redundant source against load-shedding, I don't think any one will be able to bridge the security unless they get specialized gloves from Eskom or go through the wall.

My Perfect solution would be
  • use mostly outside buglar bars
  • Electrify them
  • Maybe get a voltage amplifier 220v-3000v to ensure proper smacking

I'm not an electrician, I don't know if this will be practical, I would like to hear your inputs on this or maybe there is already a product that exist.

Use a couple of car batteries. Make sure your house is the last thing the guy ever touches.

FTFY

This your Friday troll thread?

So you want dead kids and cats and stuff? And that's just the burglar bars, the security doors you will just kill yourself too easily. Why even worry about criminals? Just take a gun and shoot yourself in the head now, since you have such a death wish. If they bypass your electric fence and dogs and beams do you think this will stop them, if they know about it?

BTW, you do get sirened burglar bars.

Never heard of anyone not even to mention a kid die of an electrical fence :o

Its not the same.

Anyway, once I was at a club and they had an electrified fence above their boundary wall at the back of the outside area of the club. I used to touch the thing randomly by accident and then deliberately and it gave me quite a rush.

Its more like its pulsing you (fairly strong pulses at that) :)

You get ClearVu bars that are linked to your security system... I suppose they use the same method on normal bars.

If your in a rural area or farm, a siren will not deter them and if you are lucky to have armed response you'll be long dead before any help comes to you. I've seen a video of house robbery in the surbs with shoppers taking staff from the home while siren on as if they don't care.

Electrified Windows to me can managed you could install Trellidor Clear guard on the inside, locked and not electrify it to prevent kids from touching life bars and could link all buglar bars to your main bedroom door with a kill off switch that cuts the lower when you open the door and me give you a chime so that your aware it's off. (Offcourse there should be a manual override option should you not want to alert the previously disadvantaged shoppers)

It won't work

Your house's electricity will trip, even if you manage to bypass the earth leakage in some way, the SDC (street distribution cabinet) will trip.

If you can get a generator, well, now we're talking!!!

No need for name calling, I just out laid what I thought could be improvement on existing predicament that most South Africans find themselves in. And I did state that I don't know much about electricity.

Its not an improvement at all, its stupidly dangerous and illegal.

After literally the 100th (I jest not)house breaking, an ex colleague rigged 220v to the window frames. The ensuing failed HB attempt left him with four slashed tyres..the suspect took retribution for that electric shock.
