Haven't picked up another thread on this topic. If there is please merge.

Will post a few observations later. Initial impression is that it's rather small.

Not holding my breath so far....

Maybe I'll feel more optimistic once I've had breakfast
 
Playstation has the largest presence with decent stand setups.

Frontosa is the only supplier who's bothered to create a decent custom stand.

Don't see BTGames anywhere, no IC, no Dion Wired, large Xbox gaming area but no other MS presence. Not much of an Electronics presence actually, mostly gaming.

Nice to see local shops (Reader's Den, etc) represented.

Decent amount of visitors today (apparently Friday was very quiet but yesterday was full).

Heard that it was meant to be twice the size but most of the big names pulled out so they only took one Hall in the end.

Nice to see some local game developers here as well as animation schools.

Have to wonder, given the apparent demographic why they held this during the school exams.

I do hope that they make enough money to do this again - this is a decent first attempt.

It was a decent first outing and I think will set a good benchmark to get retailers partaking next year which was the biggest issue.



We did promotions for Xbox One and Project Cars with Thrustmaster wheels and Racing Seats. I could have probably made 10 sales of the entire setup for people which didn't care what it cost and probably an abundance of game, console or wheel sales.



Sadly there was NOWHERE in house to point them to make such a purchase and its unlikely any of them would drive to Dionwired or the like to make it happen so it's a there and then sale lost.



So definitely would like to see the likes of IC, Music and Dion Wired next year.



BT Games being missing was just shocking. Shows you they have no care for the community.

I think people who made a day of it would have gotten their money's worth. Those who came looking for sales and a quick walkthrough might have been disappointed as there was nothing really new to see.

Good summary - I agree, if you were happy to hang around for a while it was enjoyable.
 
Given the close proximity to the school exams is why I didn't go - my son would have loved it there even if it was small.

On BT games, recently I saw them used on of these at their KC branch :sick: old-school-credit-card-machine.jpg

All stores are required to have a manual system for when the credit card systems go down. We had those back when I worked at Exclusive Books and had to use them a couple of times.

Also, I've done a complete write-up with my own photos, as well as link to other photos and videos so people can get an idea of what EGE was actually like.

Very nice writeup*.

Just to add, it's also a pity that the organisers didn't even try to get a MyBB presence going - lot's of people read MyBB and they may have garnered even more support via this channel (that said, I think that all their Social Media (and other) PR efforts were pretty lackluster).

Also, there was no information available on how to join the LAN area, etc

Wishing the show the best though - can only get better.

Lol. Fair enough :)

I was watching the demo matches from the comfort of the bean bags and was like "uhhhh, why do the food trucks have to be all the way on the other side of the hall...."

And like you said, room to grow. It's a good start and they've already said they have plans for next year so it can only get better.
 
What's this business about school exams stopping everyone from going?

You have only a day to prepare for any exam that happens in the rest of the week after a Monday, do you really tell me kids use the entire weekend to study now?

Shouldn't they be learning throughout the year instead of the day before exams?

I utilised those bean bags as well - "all the way on the other side of the hall" <--- the mark of a true lazy gamer

I took my kid on Sunday morning - offered to take his two cousins as well (my treat)...both their moms said "Nooooooooo, they have exams on Monday, they can't spend 3 hours away"....pfft... parents today :confused:

Of course not. The kids though don't need any distractions (some have started already, others start today or even next week) and a show like this cannot be visited in an hour or so, more likely a whole day event.

Not exactly, it's just those bean bags were amazzzzinng. My buddy looked up their pricing online (the bags had the website info on them). They go for something like 2.5 or 3.5 grand!

This wasn't a whole day event. And yes, it could be visited in a couple of hours. I went for a couple of hours on Saturday.

My thoughts were that it was 'ok'. I would go again because events like this interest me. However there were some challenges.

1 key example for me was that I had no idea what the schedule for the day was. I just sort of turned up and bought a ticket at the door. Unless I missed it, there was no obvious indicator as to what was happening on the day. There were PC/XBONE/PS4 tourneys happening, there were COSplay competitions, there were exhibition games being played, but there was nothing to tell you WHEN stuff was happening. There could have been some great stuff coming up that I didnt know was coming up, and thus decided to leave. So much wall, but not one projector with a program.

Another problem for me was that there was no credit card support by some of the vendors there. In particular there was a vendor selling loads of games, and I wanted to buy one for R400 but was told they couldn't take my money unless it was cash. For a tech-aligned event thats sort of lame. So no sale there.

Was really impressed by some of the local game developers showing off their games. Broforce and Desktop Dungeons looked really cool. Loved the digital art stands and the Readers Den stand. Also really enjoyed the mix of people there. It was good. Hope it gets a bit more organised for next time with more people taking part in exhibiting. It has alot of potential this exhibition.

Heh, happened to me too - asked the person helping me if they at least took Snapscan - received blank look in return.

If you were lucky enough to speak to the right person, you'd have been told that you can do a direct bank transfer (only saw that after I had trekked all the way to the solitary ATM on the other side of the convention center.

re: the schedule of events, there was one printed sign somewhere to the left of the large Playstation area...
