Elevation Data - SRTM 90m or 50m data - GEOTIFF or ASCII

Hi All

Needs some help trying to get updated 50m images of cape town.

Used google and found a few sites but it seems as if the data is not up to date, or sometimes recommends a local site (Which does not exist)
Here's a site I got but the data is of 90m.

Really hoping to find 50m data.
If you know of a local company that can supply the data please let me know.

Tried to do it with Google earth and get SRTM get data, but RSA returns little results.
If you are a PRO at this , perhaps shed some light on how to make use of .tfw and .hdr file extensions.

Not sure how quickly elevation data goes out of date (!), but I have made good use of the following data sets (originating from Shuttle SRTM missions) available for free via NASA:
http://asterweb.jpl.nasa.gov/gdem.asp

You can download various resolutions down to 30m I think, and in tiles covering your specific area(s) of interest. Hope this helps.

To make it easier for you, register on this site: http://www.jspacesystems.or.jp/ersdac/GDEM/E/index.html and then login. Should give you an interface to download what you need. Good luck.

The 30m SRTM data is normally unfinished.
That means that the shorelines have not been flattened and there may be voids in the data sets particularly in mountainous areas.
I have used 30m SRTM data but I use the CGIAR-CSI 90m data to fill in the voids in the 30m data.

That shouldn't be a problem I dont think, since the Shorelines should be one colour it would be fine for the Export of grey scale.

Thanks for the links, the Japanese version is just so much clearer.
I am Using 3Dem and MicroDem to read these files and export them as Geotiff's(Grey scale) and able to export XYZ data. Does any of you know a updated version to read these files? nothing wrong with the apps im using, just they from 2003.
