I saw the promotional material for this device at Cash Crusaders Hermanus - it was sold out though. Price R1099,90.

It is a dongle alternative with a remote for Android TV for those that do not want a box.

It runs Android TV OS 9.0. The remote has a Netflix, Google Assistant , and YouTube button.

It's certainly interesting ... but at that price for a only 1080 model with 1GB RAM - seems expensive?

You'll need to really not want a box to get one ;)

Yeah , I know the specs are not up to scratch compared to the Xiaomi Mi S and Ematic , but I do like the dongle idea being a Chromecast fan.

Good to see some dongles eventually on the shelves. SDMC do make dongles as well , but nothing for our market yet.

Where do you see this, though ?
On the big promotional cardboard stand at Cash Crusaders and the pamphlet which I unfortunately already threw in the trash. But yeah , it runs Android TV 9.

Thanks - was checking the specs and don't see anything on it

Yea I saw that too - hence was wondering about the Android TV 9.0

Personal opinion is that the unit is too entry level for the price - the 1GB RAM / 1080 resolution / lack of connectors is a bit limiting. I understand that some people do prefer a dongle though - but I've also seem that occasionally a TV can't power the unit from the USB, and you need a separate plug point anyway.

I would say the specs are very similar to an Amazon Fire TV Stick Gen 2 2016 / Basic Edition 2017 with the difference of having Android TV 9.0 :

People love their Amazon Fire TV Sticks in the US.

I had quite a few TV boxes over the years and the 4K Fire-stick is my currently my favorite. It just works !

Perfect for my setup.

I like the Amazon ecosystem - I have old Amazon Fire, Amazon Show and a few Dots.

But I understand that the Amazon Fire Stick can't do the local Showmax or DSTV Now without tweaking / side loading?

You are 100% correct.
I never tried side loading DSTV or Showmax because I don't watch it.
