Em64t Help!

I'm building up a PC for my sister and have run into a snag. The motherboard is a Sapphire Pure element II (LGA775 socket). The processor is an Intel Celeron D 3.2Ghz (351+)

On closer inspection on the processor box, I see that the processor they have given me supports EM64T. It also states that the processor will not operate without an EM64T-enabled Bios.

I assume this is the issue I'm having as the system turns on without any warning sounds but does nothing!

1. Does anyone know if the saphire pure element II Bios supports EM64T?
2. Can you get a Celeron D 3.2Ghz (LGA775 socket) processor without EM64T support?

Your help and advise would be much appreciated!

Hi,

From the Sapphire website it seems the problem is the FSB, it only says 800FSB, and a Celeron is 533FSB, so they wont play together...

EDIT: Cheapest solution would be to get a motherbaord that supports the Celeron, the cheapest Pentuim 4's are R1350, while you can get a motherbaord for it for R600 and sell the Sapphire on perhaps.

Manual says it supports 533Mhz???? I was also told by Esquire that the Mobo and processor go together fine??? Dead processor perhaps? It acts exactly as if the processor was not installed.

Don't have the answer, but the time I once put too-slow memory on a new board I got the same symptoms.

Mobo supports DDRII so it's got two 512MB 533Mhz dimms in it. I'm 100% sure it's not a memory prob.

What I meant was that if there is a processor/fsb problem, the machine cannot talk to the RAM, which is much the same as having the wrong RAM in.

Oops, first link was to the DDR version: HERE is the page of the the DDR2 version, again it only mentions 667MHz DDR2 modules and nothing else, what a sucky website, dont even have compatibility lists like most do, so take the memory along to Esquire too.

Check list,

All power connectors are plugged into the board.
The RAM is in correctly and both stick (if you have 2 ) match up.
No bent pins on the underside of chip.

If all is correct, my guess is it’s the board rather than the chip. If the chip has blown there should be a sight discoloration on the underside.

Please note: The board and the chip, in theory should not work together... but because its old and new there is always backwards compatibility there is a good chance that it will.

These are different versions of the board? Thorin is yours a PE-I7RC410M or a PE-I7RC410M-2? Maybe you got the "new" version with higher specs.

Make sure that extra 4 pin power connector in the middle of the board is plugged in, if it has one. I once forgot to plug it in and the result is as you have described.

when a spec says that a mobo bus is 800 MHz, usually means that it is UP to 800 MHz, so I don't think that this is the problem. Most likely you haven't connected something properly.

Just to be on the safe side, check somewhere the CPU compatibility list for that mobo. Most decent manufacturers do have such list.

These guys dont seem to be decent manufaturers p) since there are no such lists anywhere on that site.

Also, it just mentions the P4s (northwood and prescott in the specs), no mention of Celerons.

There have been Intel chips (785?) that don't support 400FSB and only 533 and 800, so it is possible.

Thanks for all the advice guys.

The Mobo is the new PE-I7RC410M-2. I got my sister to take it into Esquire today and I spoke to the Techie on the phone. He had it up and running in no time at all. He insists that the CPU fan had been plugged in the wrong way! I know this is a BS story as it has notches on the connector and can only be plugged in one way.................and I'm not that stupid!

I'll have a good look at it this evening and see if I spot anything which was changed.

Update

Just for Info:

The PC came back from Esquire and I tried it out last night. EXACTLY THE SAME PROBLEM!

I unplugged everything thinking perhaps it was an earthing issue. I tried starting it without the keyboard and mouse plugged in and Bobs your uncle it starts up! I then tried with just the Keyboard and it still worked. As soon as I plugged in the mouse, it would not start!

I then removed the extention cord on my mouse and plugged the mouse in directly and it worked!

Anyone else ever come across something this bizzar before??? The extention on the mouse works perfectly on my other PC's, but plug it in on this new PC and the PC will not startup.
