Email Client Thunderbird and Starttls Error!

Been using Thunderbird for a year now, about 20 days ago, when I come into work in the morning, I usually send and receive my mails.., without me changing any settings anywhere..... I started to get the following error message when sending.....

Now I battled on a few days to get these messages sent, using all three accounts that I have (All hosted by the same site (host4africa) , to no avail..... in frustration I gave up...... then in the afternoon a few hours later, I try again..... and the emails send...... this is without me from changing any settings...

Some days, no problems, some mornings. like this fine morning, the error is back.....

I read somewhere that my AVG mail scanner might be causing the issue, so I disabled this..... the problem still persists....

Surely this must be a problem with my ISP?

sounds like the ssl certificate you have on the Thunderbird side expired or the server side changed . Check the ports thunderbird is using. It does some odd things after updates
