Hi Folks
I've recently started having some weird email issues.
I have an absamail email box and am using a telkom adsl line and account.
About three, four months back, some of my emails started not arriving at their destination. No error messages, comeback, nothing. Just not getting through. All gmail accounts are affected, but not any hotmail accounts - specific email domains, and more often than not international ones.

I tried changing my outgoing mail server and this seemed to sort the issue out for a bit, but I then suddenly could not send ANY email messages, always getting an error message about "554 5.7.1 Service unavailable; Client host [41.246.15.52] blocked using zen.spamhaus.org; http://www.spamhaus.org/query/bl?ip=41.246.15.52", hense I went back to using the ABSAmail (read @lantic) authenticated SMTP.

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

And all the time I thought I was loosing my mind. I send a mail, and the person on the other side claims never to have recieved it. The first question I always gets asked is 'Are you SURE you've sent it!?" Then I start to doubt my memory, because we all know emails can't get lost, no dogs chasing the postman, no friday afternoon deliveries... Thank you for posting this, because I experience the exact same thing, and I'm not loosing it either. If anyone knows what's cooking, please let me know as-well.

Sorry, saw Iburst Wirless, ADSL and HSDPA. thought it was for al three. Does iburst do ADSL and HSDPA??
Will repost here

Yes they do, but your issue is with Absamail & Telkom.

This normally happens when the recipients' mail server is running blocklists, in this case, SPAMHAUS, to block spam senders. They can also blacklist an IP for spamming reasons, meaning they block your SMTP server's IP address.
The easiest is to use you ISP's SMTP or if you're using a telkom line you can sometimes use SMTP.SAIX.NET
In your case it would be SMTP.LANTIC.NET.
Authentication doesn't really help because you're still using the same SMTP server that could be blacklisted.

If nothing else works contact your ISP and ask them why their SMTP servers are blacklisted...?

Tip: use gmail rather. Using your ISP for email in this day and age is just crazy.

I thought the spam guys normally blocked certain ports at IP addresses only. Since my very bad understanding of the situation is that authenticated connections use a different port, it should be ok? I treid contacting their tech support. They blame gmail...wonder when ISPs will start employing people that actually know what is going on...

Yeah, but does Gmail have an outgoing mail server you can use? Otherwise you can't use outlook, as surely the same issue would occur if you try send mail using your ISPs mail server with a different email address from the ISP. Or am I missing something as usual?

Yes, Gmail does have an outgoing smtp server and the best part is it doesn't use the standard outgoing port 25, so it won't be blocked by your ISP.

Thanks, will check that out then. Would be great if that fixed my issues.
