Hi Guys,

I am setting up a network for a client who requires at least 5 email accounts. They have a server and a domain name.
ADSL seems like the best option except for the dynamic IP addresses. They not willing to pay the extra for static a IP.
I was thinking of using one of the ISPs to host the email for me, which makes their server pretty much "ornamental".
This would mean that the users just use a mail client like Outlook to get their mails. Which I think should work .... any thoughts?

Anyone got any better ideas?

Lucifir, you can try Axxess (www.axxess.co.za).
They give you 5 full POP3 mail boxes with there ADSL accounts.
Plus if you want your own domain for your emails, they do this free for you.
Give them a call and find out more.

if you are into the DIY thing...

use everydns.net to host DNS. make domain dynamic and set up primary mx record to point to dynamic domain.
on the server, run script every x minutes to update dns records with current ip.
get a free backup mx service and set up backup dns records on everydns.

rollernet.us offers some paid-for services as well. very good value for money and reliable. i have been using their backup mx service for 3 years now.

pm if you need more specific details.

EDIT: the above will not cost a cent... donations are always welcomed though

andres101 ... is this like dyndns.org ???
I was thinking of this route .... but was concerned about the time to refress the dns server .... but may just go this route eventually.
thanx

I have found that when my dynamic IP changed, its would take a matter of seconds for some ISP's DNS Servers to refresh and some would take hours, this is because of the way the individual DNS servers are set up. Me personally i just hosted my own non comercial web site so i did not worry about someone not being able to find me. If its for comercial purposes i would not recomend DynDns.

Dynamic IP

I use zoneedit.com which provided a script that is run as part of the PPP setup on my linux server... Or you can run it in a crontab every hour or so... They allso handle MX and Backup MX for you ,so while your ADSL is down which it will be sooner or later, you do not lose any mail.
