Hello,

currently i have my emails going through mweb. all my users have [email protected] and [email protected] and it looks very cheap.

i want to have for example [email protected] or [email protected], but the issue im having is that with mweb all the sub alias email addresses cannot be forwarded and only the main account, [email protected] ( example! ).

i currently got a afrihost email hosting but it apparently cant filter according to the "to" critera and redirect to the appropriate mailbox.... for example if i forwarded [email protected] to [email protected], it cant be filtered into the appropriate mailbox by using the "to" criteria.

anyone have any ideas beyond paying mweb more money to make each mailbox individual ?

thanks.

any help would be appreciated.

ps: i know i could do this all client side but it seems like a big mission.

Hi Nakedhousee,

From what I understand you only have 1 primary accounts and a selection of email alias accounts.

This type of filtering is dependent on the provider's email servers as they are often limited in what can be achieved using inbound mail rules. I can test this on our environment and feed back the results but I am certain this is possible.

The alternative is to purchase individual mailboxes but the costs are not justified.

I've helped small businesses register their first .co.za domains with 10 mailboxes hosted on Googleapps for R200 a year abouts and a setup fee. Clean and simple solution

Is R20 per 100MB domain mailbox really too much for a business to pay monthly?

Hmmm, thinking outside the box and I'm not really current on how Gmail works, but what you could do is setup a Gmail account, get the MWEB addresses to forward to that one gmail account, and then get Gmail to forward that email to the individual work addresses.

Like I said, I'm not sure about if Gmail has that feature, but you could open up a free gmail account to check it out yourself?

This: http://email.about.com/od/gmailtips/qt/How-To-Forward-Gmail-Email-Using-Filters.htm

Might push you in the right direction.

Then all you have to do is wait until the new @work.co.za email addy's kick in and the @mweb mail dwindles to 0, then disable the @mweb addresses if you'd like

Dont mess about with business email. Get off the Mweb mailboxes ASAP, they charge too much for them anyway.

over 5mil business use Google Apps for business mail:
http://www.google.com/enterprise/apps/business/?utm_expid=65468332-15

its free to up to 10 users (10GB mailboxes), and only $50 (R40 per month) per maibox a year for a 25GB mailbox after the first 10. also, each user gets 5GB of Google drive cloud storage.

start by registering the @work.co.za domain with a reputable local hosting company, like Hetzener, and have them point all the domain stuff to Google.

Google mail filters can be used to forward all Mweb mail based on the to field. Also put in a canned response to reply back to each email received via the new address indicating the new addresses.

If you need help, feel free to PM me, I will be happy to help get you started.

If you look at the other threads on this forum 'hosting & cloud' everybody is saying 'GO GOOGLE!'
And actually is true.

This is like jumping into the pool. But actually the pool is warm. So no damage will be done.

You can go 'cold turkey' and cancel you mwebs emails and go straight with google apps with your own domain. Or you can keep your mweb for a while, forwarding all emails to your new accounts in google apps.

Your only issue will be to set your MX records with your hosting, so make sure your domain host allows change of MX records -Google Apps require 5 MX records to work properly-.
Also good idea to setup your SPF records and your DKIM if your hosting can support it (basically to allow your domain to not be classified as spam).

Im not too clued up on MWEB's mailbox setup as I havent used them in about 12 years so forgive me for asking, but does each mailbox come with its own set of auth credentials?

If so, you could setup GMAIL or any other mail service such as those which we offer to import the mail from mweb and receive those mails in one location whilst you update your contact list and get them mailing you and your colleagues on the new mailbox addresses.

Yup, almost exactly what I suggested (with a helpful link too)

I would speak to Anthosting.co.za they have been around for a while, and a few of my customers are with them. no problems for about 2 years now, when they switched. tyr them out. im sure they will be able to help
I would stop spamming your company name on the forum.
