email issue for the boffins

I have 2 email accounts; afrihost and gmail. I use windows livemail.
When connecting to Afrihost with my adsl router at home, I can receive and send email on both accounts.
When connecting in any other way eg hospot Vodacom dongle etc I can receive mail on both accounts but cannot send on the Afrihost account. Gmail works fine.
I suspect it is a port issue. Have tried 25 and 587 to no avail.
Tried Afrihost support and they were less than useless - bunch of totally incompetent idiots making the the most inane and nonsensical suggestions.
Please help.

Some email servers are set up to only allow traffic from their own network.

However both Afrihost and Voda should have a password protected outgoing server as well...and those work regardless of connection.

Yes, most SMTP (outgoing) servers don't allow relaying. So you can't send email mail from an alien account.

Don't know LiveMail, but surely you can set your Afrihost account to use the Airhost SMTP server?

You are most likely using Afrihost's SMTP server for your outgoing server for that account, this is why you cannot send when not connected to your AH account.

It doesn't look like their SMTP server accepts authentication either, so you will have to use a different SMTP server, rather use Google's outgoing server.
