Hi

How do I go about troubleshooting the follow problem.

We have a client who only receives emails from certain people in our organization and doesn't receive them when sent from others. The emails he doesn't receive aren't bounced back or anything, he just doesn't receive them.

How do I find out what is happening to those emails?

If you're IT then I'd get another job.
LOL, coming to MYBB to solve your IT problems.

Well, you can view the Mail queues and confirm it's even leaving your Mail server

Are you using a smarthost to route or dns routing?

Use MXToolbox to get the MX server records for their domain, then telnet to port 25 on said server and attempt to send a mail to a receiving and a non-receiving recipient and report back

Maybe I state that incorrectly.
If I was IT I would not be trying to solve my basic IT related issues on MyBB.

I hope everyone on mybb takes note of this next time you have a problem :p

first check the logs/queue to ensure the mail is actually leaving your server. Then telnet into the recipient mail server and use command to send to people who say they are not receiving the mail and see if any errors come up.

See someone already beat me with this advice

Simply turn on delivery and read receipts and let the software tell you whats wrong.Problem solved.
