Is the email function on the iPad the same as on a Blackberry (as an example)? Your emails will still be available on Outlook on your computer/laptop.

This does depend on a few things, but with a pop connection, you can set it to retrieve mail and keep on server (default) or to delete once downloaded. If you connect via exchange you have an exact duplicate of what you see in outlook. If you delete an email in outlook, gone on phone, and vice versa
As per renier - and this applies to any device you get that connects to your email. You just need to specify (or check) whether it is set to delete messages from the server after downloading. if not, then you're grand and your messages will still be downloadable to outlook as well. Either way, messages already on outlook (assuming POP server) will not be deleted off the computer (they're on your hard drive already) by using the ipad or iphone.
