Hey guys,

A query.... at work they are using smtp.isdsl.net (I think but I know it is an IS SMTP) as the outgoing mail server. I think they are using Afrihost as an ISP but the email address are domain addresses. Now obviously I have no problems sending emails from work. Unfortunately at home I receive emails without a problem but I get error messages when trying to send emails. I am using Mweb at home.

What is the solution?

I tried changing the SMTP to smtp.mweb.co.za and the SAIX address and the test email on Outlook worked but the actual one I am trying to send still brought about a timeout error.

I use smtp.mweb.co.za without problems

How big is the file you are wanting to send?

It is not big at all.

Just to clarify is your SMTP server linked to your email address or your service provider? As stated I think they are using IS at the office but I use MWEB at home. I'm a little confused as I usually do not have an issue.

This is the error I am getting with the smtp.isdsl.net server : "The operation timed out waiting for a response from the sending (SMTP) server" etc

You cannot use IS smtp with mweb. You need to use mweb or saix.

My email is with mweb but i can also use the saix one but the IS one i cannot use with mweb.

Yeah, I thought as much hence me trying the SAIX and the Mweb ones but still not having joy! :(

Even if it did work it would be a pain needing to change between the two whether in the office or at home.

Have you tried sending it via http rather than your email program? Is it just one email or can you can send other emails but not that specific one?

Maybe there are some mail issues tonight or something along those lines.

Linked to your ISP. Strange that you've tried smtp.mweb.co.za and it doesn't work.

Maybe an authenticate outgoing server issue (username/password)?

I've started using Gmail at home - much easier with the different ISP's and email addresses I use. You can add your email addresses to Gmail and send mails straight from Gmail using your work email for instance, or reply from them if you receive a work email for instance. Works like a charm, and you have access to all your sent mails wherever you are - very handy to me.

EDIT/ saw your lat post now - using the same computer at work and the office?

You might have a corrupt Outlook e-mail settings profile. Delete the profile in question and create it again. Make sure that you are using the correct port numbers: POP3 = 110 and SMTP = 25.

Can you ping smtp.mweb.co.za?

If you have domain hosted email, wouldn't it just be easier to use smtp.domainname.tld using authentication that should be the same as the pop/imap authentication?

Had the same problem .... had to use the domain smtp settings .... for me it was "mail.domainname.co.za" + check "My Server Requires Authentication" ;)
