Hey

Got iburst, what should my outgoing mails server be when using Outlook?

smtp.iburst.co.za or smtp.wbs.co.za
You wont be able to send email to AOL subscribers because iBurst refuse to admit their mail servers are not set up properly (rDNS) and refuse to fix it or allow me to fix it.

I don't think smtp.iburst and smtp.wbs are the actual sending servers (same IP btw). The sending servers look something like mail-01.jhb.wbs.co.za. The main sending server (to me at least) seems to be mail-03.jhb.wbs.co.za (196.2.97.2)

# host 196.2.97.2
2.97.2.196.in-addr.arpa domain name pointer mail-03.jhb.wbs.co.za.

Seems to have a rDNS?

Yeah, it has rDNS, but its not set up properly. Their mail servers are set as "spam" servers to the rest of the world because what they say they are and what they actually are return different addresses.

And that's a fact. it caused ENORMOUS headaches for me. Eventually we used external mail servers to work around this problem!!!

Off-topic but related. If they cannot fix this problem, CAN YOU IMAGINE what's gonna happen when they get exploited due to the current DNS exploit that was uncovered?

Ah, so their EHLO xxxxx is wrong? Mail admin probably setup one machine and the ghosted it to all the others ...

I long ago started moving everyone I know off IBurst. I currently only know one person who has IBurst, but that's because they cannot get ADSL. I'll be moving them onto HSDPA as soon as I can (black hat is in less than 3 weeks so I better get my ass into gear). Sad actually, I was with Iburst through the trial period, network was beautiful. I recommended them to everyone I knew. 5 years on, and of the 15 people that I moved to Iburst, 1 remains ... sad sad story ...

Well one of my ex-customers remains. They don't have a choice because the criminals keep stealing the Telskam cables in Brixton and take 3 weeks to fix it. I myself am still running iBurps at home but I am shopping around for ADSL at the moment.

You know iBurps is kuk when:

* The hardware sells 2nd hand for R500 or less and two years ago 2nd hand they sold for over a grand
* Horror stories abound of people's bank accounts being raided in accordance with their chinese maths accounting f-up's
* People will give you their modem for free after getting ADSL, with one catch, that you either strip it or smash it with a hammer
* 2nd hand modems cannot be transferred because the previous owner still owes them money according to iBurst, even tho his account is off the system
* People resort to using crappy GSM to have some form of internet rather than iBurps.
