Hi Everyone,
Our domains are hosted by Cybersmart. We are suddenly getting a lot of unsolicited annoying spam mails from two domains. I have complained on numerous occasions to Cybersmart. All I get from them is an apology and a spam filtering facility is put in place or they have 'tweaked the Spam Assassin Rules'.
The big question is: How did the spammer get hold of ALL our email addresses including those that are inactive?

Simply put, all email addresses on Cpanel on one of the domains were used by the spammer!
I questioned Cybersmart about this including sending Cybersmart a screenshot of the daily spam and the excuses I got is laughable!
I am of the opinion that the spammer either had access to our back-end or got our email addresses from somewhere.

I could be wrong and therefore would appreciate your input immensely.

Thanks!

First things First.

1. Change your C Panel login password.
2. Change all your email account passwords.

I had made login changes to Cpanel a few days ago. Thanks LinuxMan.

Could very well be that it's an open relay? With another local hosting provider I had the issue, that they did not ACL the shared log directory and all other customers maillogs were accessible.

#wrong thread.

Anyway, sign up for Zoho domain email and then point your DNS in your cPanel to the Zoho mail server. ...or use some other email provider that allows domain email hosting.

The nice thing with this is your web hosting and everything else will remain as is, just your emails will be hosted elsewhere at a host that has good experience with safety on mail.

Also just a tip, make sure everyone is using the recommended secure SSL/TLS settings.

Does TLS actually matter, as most ISPs/recipients actually do not support it - example FNB: http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/saferemail/#region=002&search=fnb.co.za

Use a dedicated hosting company fot hosting not a jack of all trades had this issue with Afrihost.

I recommend either Elitehost or Hetzner
