5 out of 10 times my emails to my sister-in-law in switzerland are
returned with this message :-

host mx.hispeed.ch[213.46.255.2] said: 551 Mail from your
IP address is currently blocked based on RBL listing (in reply to RCPT TO
command)

My ISP is Telkom, do you think hispeed.ch is blocking mail originating
from Telkom servers due to spam ? It's very irritating and wastes my
time and bandwith having to resend.

Any ideas why this is happening ? ( Only started about 3/4 weeks ago).

Regards.

Hi ocky,

That is correct. I often set up RBL as it is a really effective way to block spam.

What happens is all hostnames that send spam can be reported and are then recorded to large databases. Mail servers can then connect to these databases, lookup the origin of the message and then act accordingly.

For instance, you an visit http://www.spamhaus.org/lookup.lasso and enter an IP address to see if it is blocked.

ISPs are meant to get their addresses cleared, but we all know how much Telkom care about their e-mail system...

I would say that your best bet is to ditch Telkom for e-mail. Good luck!

Thank you very much RavenServers - now I know why. :(
