I've just bought an Acer netbook with embedded 3G. I've inserted the card, it asks for the PIN and connects to the Vodacom SA network correctly. All perfect.

But when I open IE it doesn't open a page. I'm connected - but nothing :(

The connection pops up as a wireless connection (as though I've connected to a wirelessn my network) and in My Network Connection it comes up as a LAN.

I assume something to do with Internet Options > Connections.

Any help?

Just an update :

Although it says 'connected to Vodacom SA network', I can't ping www.google.co.za. Also sites that check internet connections (McAfee) says they can't find.

I can SMS from it though (so it is connected) and when I put the SIM in my phone, I could browse.

It seems the computer doesn't know where the internet actually is. Anyway of telling of what connection?

What anti-virus are you running? Make sure your firewall is set to allow IE access to the net/make sure your firewall isn't blocking absolutely everything... It's happened to me a few times with my embedded.

Just got it running, thanks. However I still have no idea why or what :

I connected to my home wireless network (with another shared 3G) and it browsed. I disconnected the home network - and all of a sudden my emedded 3G is working.

New SIM waiting to be provsioned for 3G?

I see the Acer has the Huawei Mobile Partner dash already loaded..
