Emergency Calls Only -VODACOM

Hi MyBB

I have been having a lot of problems during the past couple of months with the Vodacom network. About 3-4 times a month, I get the following message when trying to make a phone call from Vodacom sim: "emergency calls only".

I have full network signal. A restart of my phone sometimes fixes the issue but more often than not, the situation resolves itself randomly.

Anyone else been having a problem like this?

Have you tried the sim in a different phone?
 
Could be related to congestion? Does this happen at a specific time or any time of the day?
Maybe log a call with Vodacom's network department and get them to investigate.
 
Yeah you may have to log a call. I had a similar issue and they told me they reprovisioned my sim or something to fix the issue. They said if it continues I'd need to get a new SIM but it's been fine since then.
 
I assume it is an isheep phone? Try set the mobile network mode to 3G only and see if that fixes it :)
 
Logged a call and seems Vodacom blamed the lack of connectivity on the load shedding in Rosebank area. Asked them to re-provision the sim so let's see how quickly that happens.

I experienced something similar on my phone too sometime in January. Full LTE signal, but would get a message "emergency calls only". When I switch my phone to 3G/2G mode, then I was able to make and receive calls and use data again. However LTE was giving problems with calls and data.

Phoned the call centre and they said that the have to re-provision my SIM settings for LTE and VoLTE or something along those lines. Since then it hasn't happened. That was in the middle of January. Back on LTE and VoLTE. Hopefully it stays like that.
