I have always wondered who pay’s the speeding fines for Emergency vehicles? Is it the driver of the vehicle or do the traffic department just write it off? And what about unmarked vehicles?

I know that the Netcare drivers get in trouble if they exceed the speed limit - the managers on duty get an sms and then the drivers get a phone call.

I know in the case of SAPS the traffic department usually just write it off.

The driver in question has to motivate why they were speeding, and if its good enough it gets written off, if not the SAPS driver is liable for the fine.

Yep that's it, although apparently sometimes they don't bother to question it.

Yes. Netcare doesn't allow their drivers to exceed the speed limit.

As above.

I think they should be allowed to "speed"... some areas like on the N1 and N2 the speed limit is 80km/h but one can easily AND safely go 120km/h. If I'm suffering after being in an accident I'd want help to come as quick as possible...

They allowed to speed if they are responding to an emergency. Any medical officer is allowed to speed in case of an emergency. The fine just gets written of if the case is solid and they can prove they were responding to an emergency.

I got rid of my fine when I got called out and im not even considered EMRS ..... lol

Simply told the prosecutor "the ER ran out of drugs and the surgeons needed it STAT". Presented my call out register and boom fine was gone

Know a guy who's a first response paramedic, when he gets a call, it's 'voet in die hoek' regardless of speed limit. Fines get written off. Also know that doctors who get called out on emergencies can get fines retracted if they can prove circumstances required it.
