Employee time keeping and payroll software

I have recently been looking in to upgrading our HR management software at our company and came across a really nice piece of open source software for time keeping and payroll called TimeTrex.

While we won't be using it for our payroll, the time tracking is really awesome and can do basically everything we need it to. Learning curve is a bit steep due to the amount of features but once you understand the structure of the software it makes a lot of sense and is quite intuitive.

We are currently using another open source package called OrangeHRM, but it is seriously lacking especially when comparing it to TimeTrex. The software also has very good support forums and I had a question which was answered within 10 minutes of posting, for a piece of free software it's really impressive.

I think we may just be moving over as it looks very promising so far, going to run it alongside our current system this month and see how it fares.

But the other reason for this thread is to find out what your companies are using - I would like to get a good picture of whats out there before making any decisions. Please post here on what HR software your companies are using and how effective it is, cost, etc. Would be an good resource.

Accounting and auditing firms use software such as e-Cost from GreatSoft or Accfin. This keeps track of the work done by the clerks, shows the partners their billings and then invoice the clients. Engineers could also use it as they tend to do projects on a similar basis. Would be a bit expensive for the traditional clock in clock out of the shop floor worker.
Some of the large retail store use an American system which does integrate to payrolls. Bytes distribute and support it the name is Kronos. It also integrates with biometric readers for finger prints.
I have heard adverts for another company called ERS Bio on the radio which sounds like a fully integrated system or at least claims it will integrate with the payroll.
I had a quick look at TimeTrex and it does look to be well featured. I looked at the Business Edition pricing at $33 per employee (R270 approx ) and it seems a reasonable per annum. The professional is more expensive but there are discounts that kick in with volume purchase. What I really liked though was they offer a hosted solution at under $3 per month which seems very good.
There is a standard edition which appears free. Not sure for how long or how many employees it would support or more importantly what functionality it would not have. However for evaluation it is a good idea.

Since our company runs basically on outsourcing, we had to use this time tracking software. It's called Time Doctor and to give you a general idea of how it works, it's basically like an Analytics of your workday. It shows you how much time you've spent on different processes on the computer, different websites, etc. It also tracks the different tasks you do and more importantly it accurately tracks all the work hours done. It will do all of these things without being obtrusive. It claims to increase productivity and it certainly has increased ours.

It's very ideal for monitoring your people even when they are working remotely. You might want to check how it works. After all, there is a free 30 day trial with no credit card needed.

I think you can check Replicon's easy to use cloud based time management software that I had been using after doing a lot of research and studying reviews. It has got nice features with simplicity to use and robust support.

Hi Guys - so we are "using" Kronos :the problem being that we have poor end support/roll-out of the product. I don't want to name and shame the provider , but alas - the end result at this stage is lackluster at best.

If anybody has got contact details of a guru or expert on Kronos , i would be ever be grateful before we potentially challenge our current provider to court...
