I notice that emule is pretty much unuseable on ADSL.

While my bittorrents (on port 80) fly at full speed, emule crawls.

In order to get around the emule problem I have:
-Set it to use port 80.
-Made sure the firewall has been appropriately punctured.

No joy. Even doing the SBT (Standard Britney Test ... download file with thousands of sources.) ... no joy.

Has anyone been able to get decent speeds from emule? If so how?

Seems like Telc*nt is packet filtering emule traffic?

hey hArTh,

The key to emule on ADSL is patience and a good credit file, i've changed my incoming port to 25, would of made it 80, but I have a webserver on my machine.

Basically, even on files with few sources I get around 7kb/s, which isnt so great but I have time ;) You probably already know this but make sure you have a high id, if you don't then its impossible to dl anything.

Also make sure that you connect to razorback2.com's server.

What ports are best for bittorrent? If I set it to port 80 it says address already in use. What ports aren't shaped on ADSL?
I've tried everything and I still get crappy 2-8K rates even on files with over 100 seeders...

how does one go about getting a high id? I'm using edonkey and I connect fine, but can't download for hell, on the console I see that it says I have a lowid, how do I change that?

The most common reasons for low id's are the following:

If your behind a firewall, open the incoming port (default is 4662 I believe), alternatively you could just configure the incoming port to be something like port 80.

If your using an adsl router make sure you forward the port to the correct ip address and port.

These are the most common reasons, another thing which hardly ever happens is if your assigned an IP that ends with a 0 you end up with a low-id.

Also, to speed up the downloading process you can increase the amount of concurrent connections in emule.

Finally got that sorted out, thanks for the help, already working much better now just need to find something that actually has a lot of people sharing it. Currently downloading multiple files at a total speed of 9kb/s :( Have my upload limit set to 10kb/s and that's flying at max :P

I've done quite a bit of testing now. Different clients, port numbers etc.

edonkey network on adsl is slower than using it on ISDN which indicates that Telkom are nailing edonkey packets somehow.

I doubt that, I've used it just fine on ADSL. All you need to do is ensure your chosen port is forwarded to the machine (if it is on a network) and that it is open etc. DISABLE UDP!

Karnaugh, wanted to check out youre pics man,.
See you enjoy a bit of jamming, anytime ull be up in Joeys at a gig or somin like that?
On second thoughts who the hell wants to come up here anyway.

Well turning off UDP made a huge difference for me. I'm getting very reasonable speeds on single files now e.g. 12-20K.
