Enabling APN - what exactly will it give one access to?

I have a Torch. If I enable the "internet" APN - what can I expect to get back while BIS is down? Is there a definite list? I know the data will be charged for.

Also - is a reboot required once the APN is enabled or does it go straight away?

I dont think you will get anything back. Most apps are programmed to be forced via the blackberry.net APN. The only thing you should be able to get around is using your Vodafone brower which uses the vlive APN and therefore you will be able to browse the net (data charges will apply)

Firstly a reboot is not required to work.

If you do use the internet APN and change the setting the browser then that should work too. MXit will also work if you change the setting on the MXit application itself and that's about it...

Oh and lastly, I think opermini is set to use the internet APN by default - I had to change it on my Torch the first time to force it to use BIS.

If you use whatsapp you should get it back if you can somehow disabled BIS....... I dont have BIS because i have a blackberry in the time being, but my whatsapp works fine at least to non-BIS people!

Everything Except actual rim developed apps will work, facebook and twitter will work if you connect to wifi though. Installing the gmail app will sort out push mail and you need to disabled push in whatsapp advanced settings, my moms been using her berry for 3 months without bis and she still does everything she used to at less than half the price.

If you want apps off appworld just connect the phone to your pc and download them that way.
