Don't need a politician to tell us that. We've been saying that for ages. 30% when I matriculated in 1993 was considered a fail. I actually think it was 40% and below, but here we are in 2021 celebrating a 30% pass.
What a crock this country has become.

That is just silly. I admire the opposite. I admire when someone can see the error in their ways, acknowledge that and change their viewpoint

today this, tomorrow that, no error to be seen or heard, never mind the need to acknowledge anything. As I highlighted, the good messenger also does this, and don't spin the politician BS, they are still human like you and I.

I understand, and respect, people better who stand by their own. To recognise and admit to errors are a whole other socio concept, and mind you, people still lie. Just because there is acknowledgement doesn't mean that it is an acknowledgement, most people, through my own experience, tend to weave realities to promote or better suit their own.

People will always be gullible, and open to manipulation. Anyhow, going OT.

I do agree with Maimane though. We do need to end this 'silly' 30 pass mark syndrome, but it is easier said than done, standards, the bar, needs to increase incrementally. This is not something we can autocorrect, but we did indeed create this standard, the question is what the state desire, where are we heading too, what course have we been set upon?

I am very certain that an F (33 - 39%) was a pass when you matriculated in 1993, I guess one can always argue that 33% is better than 30% but it looks the same to me.

For lower grade yes (which was still a better education than what you get today). Higher grade was 40 or 45% not sure.

Also you failed your year if you failed 1 language or 2 other subjects. These days I think you can fail 3 subjects.

I stand to be corrected but I think in my days (also 90s) you had LG, SG, HG and these had varying pass percentages....?

No unfortunately, F was a pass at higher grade, I really don't understand how bad people's memories are, the 90s is not that long ago.

40% was a pass. If you got less than 40% but more than 35% they would pass you on STANDARD grade.

Memories. 90s wasn't that long ago.

The pass percentages were the same, it's just a pass at Higher Grade was always better, so an E at HG counted more than an E at SG, I have no recollection of lower grade.
