Engine overhaul

Suppose your car has a mileage of about 200 000 KM and you do an engine overhaul.
When you trade it in, does that engine overall make any difference in terms of the trade-in value?

You mean overhaul?

To my knowledge, not really. We overhauled the motor of my mother's car, when we sold it we got book value and that was it :(

Probibly not, but if you don't overhaul it, you'll not even get trade...
Not really a sellers market with cars now.

Won't get you any extra back from insurance either in case it gets stolen with a brand new engine in it. Book value is book value - the motor industry's bible. You can gold plate a 1995 Mazda Midge and you're still only going to get R10,000 on a trade-in. :)

If you sell it yourself and don't trade it in you could use the overhaul as a pulling point for a slightly higher price.

200 000 km's is way too early to OH an engine though unless is been badly looked after.
