Engineers achieve quantum teleportation over active internet cables

An engineering team at Northwestern University has achieved a breakthrough in quantum teleportation, demonstrating the feasibility of transmitting quantum information alongside classic internet traffic.

As research advances, we could enter a new era in communication technology, where quantum and traditional networks can coexist to offer unprecedented levels of security and speed.

Quantum teleportation, a process that harnesses the power of quantum entanglement, enables an ultra-fast and secure method of information sharing between distant network users.

Unlike traditional communication methods, quantum teleportation does not require the physical transmission of particles. Instead, it relies on entangled particles exchanging information over great distances.
 
This is pretty cool but I don't see any reason undersea cables won't switch to quantum links once the tech is mature enough to handle the volume of data required. Its where the biggest latency is and a fair chunk of companies/people would pay more for a 80ms+ latency improvement.
Then a lot of trading companies would happily setup/convert their traditional links for the better latency.

If they can make the tech cheap enough I don't see how this will be a need. It does however show robustness is possible which is great.

Doesn’t the concept of entanglement suggest the possibility of sending information into the past? In order to reduce latency to faster than light in relativistic terms that is what happens.

I’m not too knowledgeable about the spooky action at a distance thing but from my understanding the moment data is being manipulated entanglement breaks. So it’s still not breaking Einstein’s laws that no information can exceed the speed of light.

No, you still need to send the entangled items as you would normally via the data line, its just that once they arrive you can then act on it remotely.

As I think I understand it, it's a different medium altogether - space/time doesn't seem to exist in this instant state that the entanglement happens in, so no past time to travel to.

And yet the claim is that quantum teleportation has now been proven, so some sort of measurable transfer is presumed to have happened.
