England vs Algeria

Worst game of the tournament so far /me thinks.

Why won't Capello use Joe Cole ffs

Bring back Sven *cringe*

Drop lampard or gerrard as well, they cannot play together.

No the worst game was the french against mexico. Wow they played poorly.

At least Gerrard tried get things going with a few shots and passes. Heskey spent most of his time in England's 3rd fetching the ball while Rooney suddenly has no first touch. Rubbish

Yea but heskey tried more than anyone else, when you have your strikers needing to fetch the ball you have a problem. Heskey while useless was englands man of the match and the sad thing is he did very little but he closed down and tried.

When you have heskey as your best player you are in major kuk :D.

I have no idea why Heskey is being killed off after last night's game. I can honestly say he was the hardest working guy on the pitch last night

I wasn't criticizing Heskey himself for that ;)

A shell-shocked Fabio Capello admitted his England side had caved in to pressure after they stumbled to a goalless draw against Algeria which leaves their World Cup hopes hanging by a thread.

The England manager claimed his side, who were booed off at the end at the Green Point Stadium, were unrecognisable from the team which had won nine out of 10 matches in qualifying.

And he did not rule out resigning if England did not make it through to the last 16.

When asked if he would go if they did not get the win they need to definitely progress from Group C against Slovenia next Wednesday, he said: "It is too early to speak about this. We have to wait."

Capello, however, did give an honest appraisal of one of England's worst-ever World Cup performances, in which Wayne Rooney, who has not scored for his country in more than 11 hours of football, was frustrated and out of sorts.

Capello, who saw his side draw 1-1 with the United States in their first match, said: "We did not play a good game. We missed a lot of balls when we had to control. We missed a lot of passes and when we arrived at the box we tended to shoot at the goalkeeper. We missed everything. In this game I did not see the spirit of the team."

When asked what was wrong with Rooney specifically he said: "I don't know. I don't like to speak about the performance of one player. I prefer to speak about the performance of the team. Rooney didn't play like Rooney, but he is not the problem.

"It is the pressure of the World Cup. These players are training very well at a fast speed. But these two games they were not the same."

Capello also admitted they were "lucky" to still have a chance of getting to the last 16 after the USA drew 2-2 against Slovenia.

"We have to be focused for the next game," he said. "We have a big chance to go through after the draw of the United States.

"I hope on Wednesday to see the England team. This is not the England that I know. It is not the players in training. When I started as England manager I saw the same things when we played at Wembley. I hope for the next game that we forget this performance and forget to play with fear and without confidence.

"It is incredible the mistakes of the players, when they do not control the ball, the easy passes we missed. Everything. This is incredible for the level of the England players.

"It is the pressure. It is so big that the performance of the players is not as good as I know."

Capello also dismissed the notion, posed by former England boss Graham Taylor, that there might be problems in the training camp.

Capello said: "This is incredible. I think we have the best training camp. We are training well together always. The problem is not the training camp. The problem is the players who were so good as a team are not so good as a team at this moment."

The manager, who turned 64 today, is hoping one big performance could yet reignite his squad.

He added: "I hope that after playing a big performance the minds of the players will be free and we can play like the England that I know. This is very important."

But while Rooney claimed the fans should not have booed the team as he left the field, Capello backed the supporters.

He said: "I think always the fans can decide to do what they prefer. I respect the fans. They always follow us. They always help us. I did not hear the boos because of the vuvuzelas. I don't know if it is a vuvuzela or a boo."

Perhaps after this WC there needs to be a radical change to entire team and system. Not sure who the manager could be but he should instill positive high tempo footie and bring in youngsters and mold the squad to challenge for the 2014 WC or more likely the 2016 European Championships.

Youngsters like Hart, Rodwell, Cattermole, Willshire, Milner must come into the first team now while over the hill players, overpaid stars who never perform and players simply too crap should be chucked out players like James, Terry, Lampard, Lennon, SWP, Upson, Carra, Heskey, Barry, Defoe, Carrick, Green and King. All gone.

Apparently the guy who snuck in after the game gave the team a verbal lashing, even giving Beckham some.
You'd think this was terrible but everyone back at England is actually taking this on saying : "The only englishman in the changing room with passion" & "He should have gone in with a football, then the team would have really been scared"

Raikaard for England?

TBH Capello's game does not suit the English one bit...

Luckily he wasn't nutter armed with a weapon. Epic security fail

I quoted Cruyff before the World Cup started. England will never win the World Cup under Capello.

He is a master at defensive football, its good to win important tactical games but in general it is not good enough. England are poor.

Jose/Capello - same type of coach.

Where was Wayne Rooney? Isnt he suppose to be England's best player and one of the best players in the world?

Rooney is overrated IMO

If you followed the soccer section thread, i have been saying this forever.

Although, he did have an outstanding season, he isnt on the same level as Messi or Ronaldo.

Messi > Rooney > Ronaldo

Just no idea wtf it is with Rooney and the World cup tbh. The last WC he had the same problem

Why do you rate Rooney over Ronaldo? Is it because he doesnt play in the EPL anymore?

He did very very well for his first season in La Liga. He is miles better than Rooney.

Lastest season Rooney had a better season, I stand to be corrected though.

Stats:

Rooney 44 games and 34 goals.

Ronaldo 35 games and 33 goals.

I stand corrected then.
I would still put Rooney above Ronaldo purely based on character. Ronlado is a little spoilt kid, where Rooney stands his own. But that is my opinion :o
