Enhanced games

On the neon-clad Strip in Las Vegas - a city known for pushing boundaries in the pursuit of entertainment and profit - one of the most controversial events in sports history is about to take centre stage.

Featuring athletes who have taken performance-boosting drugs banned in mainstream competition, the inaugural Enhanced Games will finally happen this weekend, provoking both dismay and intrigue.

For the many critics, 'Sin City' provides a fitting backdrop to what they see as a disturbing spectacle, one which they say normalises doping, undermines the long fight against cheating and risks the health of those taking part.

Those behind the so-called 'Steroid Olympics' insist the event will reward athletic excellence, celebrate scientific innovation and explore human potential.

Only 1 record broken and 3 clean athletes won.

Well that was pointless. Dope better next time.

If you were an athlete, why would you choose to compete in this? You'd be banned from all the non-enhanced competitions, of which there are many more, not mention much higher earning potential.

This competition will lead to some death over time I imagine.

Let's ask grok: $500000 prize pool per event, $250000 to the winners, plus $1m bonuses for breaking world records. Overall prize pot of $25m. Athletes also get appearance fees and yearly salaries 3-5x what their national federations pay.

One swimmer said it would take 13 years of world champ wins to match one Enhanced Games payday.

Also, some athletes are already banned or sidelined in clean sports or they are near the end of their careers etc and see this as a much easier way to earn quick, big bucks, so they don't care about clean sports anymore. They also have a much higher chance to actually win something because there are far fewer athletes to compete against (42 total this year). In swimming for example, there were like 4 swimmers, each of them had a massive payout.
