Can one increase the Windows bootcamp partition without having to re-install windows XP on a macbook. Reason is that I want to play a LAN game but do not have enough space on my windows partition.

I think since Leopard came out you've been able to create/resize partitions.

I would do a full backup of both partitions first though.

Hmm... I was stuck in the same situation as you. I wanted to test WoW on the Windows Partition to see if it would run any different than on the Mac side but my WoW folder is sitting on 13GB's! :-/

I tried using partition magic to resize the partition but ended up corrupting Windows.
It gave the Hul.dll error... I think this can be fixed but I don't have significant Windows
knowledge to know how.

Using the Bootcamp Assistant it will only allow you to destroy your Windows Partition and put the space back for your Mac to use. It's amazing how Mac can resize it's primary partition but not Windows.

BTW, have you tried Crossover for Mac? It runs windows games very well on Mac without needing to have Windows installed. It uses a spiffed up version of Linux's WINE concept with pretty decent DirecX functionality.

Did you try resizing the partition using disk utility?

I can't recall trying that, no.

in the end I removed the bootcamp partition all together as I actually did not find the need for Windows on my machine anymore :p

I was thinking of using that but am a bit scared...

BTW - damn Dions Connect. Walked in there today and walked out with the Apple aluminuim wireless keyboard. Mann but is cool. Works much nicer than the macbook keyboard. Will be using it on the PS3 as well.

Yeah - I had a problem or two partitioning an external drive so I understand your being wary.

Nope, wont allow me to. However d/loaded Winclone and busy backing up the WinXP disk. Apparently once its finished, destroy the partition with bootcamp assistant and create a larger one. Then restore your image to the new disk partition.

Will try this. If it does'nt work then I'll just re-install.

Must then just re-create the parallels link to the bootcamp partition.

Winclone? Dont you have superduper  :D

Bleagh... did not work. Need to reload windows - which is also not working - will have to revert to the manual!! or just leave it as is..

Could you not install WoW on the mac partition? Not really sure if it would work for all the different dlls needed to be accessed, but I can see and swap files between MAc HD and Windows HD partitions on my Mac in and out of Fusion... Just a thought.

Never tried that actually :-)

The only reason I wanted to load WoW through Bootcamp is so I could see if the performance of WoW would run differently through Windows and Mac on my Macbook.

It runs pretty okayish through Mac OS with some detail turned down, through virtualization I think it would run a bit worse?

An interesting thing I have seen is WoW running off an iPod! I don't think it has any Windows dependent DLL's.

What I did once was use an ubuntu live CD to resize my bootcamp partition, cant remember the procedure exactly though but I booted up the ubuntu GUI and used the partition manager, worked flawlessly.
