Entire MTN network Down

I've got mates who work for EmptyN...

...but I can't get hold of them to ask them what the F@#K is wrong because they're all on EmptyN numbers!

All their useless call centre tells you is that "we had a problem but it's now resolved"...guess what sunshine? IT AINT RESOLVED!!!!!!!!!

Is this only in JHB proper. I'm currently in the East Rand and all's well here. Just made an MTN to Vodacom call without any issues.

Nope...

Also Lonehill, Midrand etc...I've been having the same problem since yesterday afternoon.

PS: I am led to believe it's only incoming calls. Outgoing isn't a problem. If I dial my girlfriend, I get "the number you have dialed is incorrect..." She can make outgoing calls.

Also on the East Rand and everything works but now that you mention it, I was in Jhb earlier and now have voicemails when I'm certain I didn't miss any calls.

Damn networks - if it isn't one it's the other

Is this Telkom playing some more games?

Because of late there's generalized issues and problems with everybody, not just Vodacom...

Keep in mind Telkom still control the backbone, so (theoretically) they can still pull some dirty tricks...

i am sitting in Pretoria, near Menlyn Mall, and the mtn network here is also down. But our Telkom is also downl. our telkom representative says that there was some cable theft in the area. so ya...

Sitting here in Brooklyn - no data niether.

MTN zero network

I was without MTN cellphone coverage non-stop from thursday to saturday last week in an area of about 40 km around my house (Betty's Bay, WC), and now again, since Wednesday morning. Zero signal, and there are are no Telkom lines in this part of the town ("no capacities left"). Working from home, local wireless running. Their network complaint desk last time took 3 days to apologize that they had some problems, after claiming there were no problems when I phoned in. Can either drive past Hangklip for reception or put in the VC SIM which is working fine. My phone does 3G and GPRS. Never had any failures before last week. Posted to INCASA, not that I think that that might help.

Its so good to have a forum like this :D
My phone, TYTN2, has been going offline, no signal, like when u switch off the cell radio (airplane mode?) for a few days now, and even though I switch on/off, it does not reconnect to MTN, but it does reconnect after a while.
I have been starting to wonder if the phone's not busted :D
At least now I know there are some network issues!
Funny thing is... when my phone goes offline, wife's phone sometimes, still has some signal.
Was wondering if it can't be the simcard... wife has new 3G simcard, I have oooooold sim, quite a few years old, everytime I renew contract, just get new phone, keep simcard.
