Entry level Android phone needed.

I need to buy my kid an entry level Android phone. Mainly for Whatsup.

I looked at the Galaxy Pocket @ R899 - Screen is a bit to small

Galaxy S3 Mini @ R3899 is perfect but way to expensive for me.

What other models should I be looking at in the +- R1500 price range?

Thx mmmig. He says he does not want a keyboard as he might be seen as one of those BB people from the dark ages of smartphones.

I am amazed that the R1000 - R1500 market is just left open to competitors. No wonder BB is selling so well in SA.

I have a Huawei Ascend P1 that I got for the wife with the R1999 promotion in December, and she's gone back to her BB...
Screen guard a bit scratched, but the device is in perfect nic. Yours for R1600 - pm me if interested.

got a motorola xt 910 razr dual core 1.2Ghz ICS android 1GB RAM, 16gb storage on board+16GB card included. R2k.
screen has no scratches on it! lived under a screen protector its whole life..

Get the Sony Experia Go
It's a tuff little phone, in the same league as the Motorola Defy....water resistant, etc, etc, kid proof, etc.
Upgradable to Ice Cream Sandwich

I have bought a secondhand Huawei Ascend P1 that I am very happy with, accept for the annoying message every time I leave a wi-fi spot to enable mobile data. I have still not found a way around this.
