Entry Level Content Creator Laptop Price?

I'm looking to upgrade before the end of the year, I initially thought R30K can get me a decent mid range prosumer laptop but I see most laptops in that range only run a 1660Ti. I really thought I could get a RTX 2060 at this price point :(

Wary of laptops like that, battery performance would be quite poor, but depends on your needs.

MSI has some great value for money content creator laptops, check those out. Think it's the Creator, Modern and Prestige series. Wootware sells Modern variants, if I recall.

MSI are not known for their longevity. My current Dell is 6 - 7 years old and would want a laptop that's going to last me at least 5 years. I'll just have to adjust my expectations

Arguably the same for most laptops. Been looking for laptops the past 2-3 years now, myself. I've not settled on one yet, they're all terrible in some ways.

Dell XPS laptops are supposedly some of the best Windows machines, but I've seen issues some customers have with swelling batteries pushing up against the trackpad. Premium laptops with OLED screens have flickering issues so you'll experience eye strain frequently, track pads off-centered bug the hell out of me, you cannot find good speakers on any of them, keyboard layouts are usually quite terrible, the list goes on.

I'm almost settled on either a Razer Blade 15 Stealth or standard Razer Blade, but there are still some things that bug me bout it.

It hurts being nitpicky, but when it comes to the cost of hardware in SA.. :(
Adjusting expectations really is necessary when it comes to laptops. I may just end up getting a 16gb Matebook D14/15 then remote desktop to my home PC for heavier workloads and call it a day.

The compromises one has to make. :cautious:
 
What is a "content creator laptop?"
You mean a laptop for video editing right?

Ahh ok so the game streaming makes more sense then.
Definitely the Wootbook, only ever heard good things about them and the other versions of the Tongfang laptop that they are branded from.
Just one thing to note, you almost have to underclock any of those gaming laptops to live with them for daily use.
They will all get too hot and all of them will thermally throttle. The Wootbook seems to be on par and slightly better than some of the normal big names.
 
Ryzen 4x00 series is absolutely trashing Intel in productivity benchmarks.

I need a reasonablely accurate at colour display, so I doubt it has one. Truthfully though I want a machine that will be able to play next gen titles at a reasonable FPS when I'm not using it for work.

I came here to preach this laptop. They are one of the best AMD laptops at the moment. As far as I know, they are the same as the XMG core 15 / Eluktronics RP-15, and have the best thermals out of what I've seen.

I would have one myself if they offered a 17". *Sad trombone noises*

Well you could blame covid :D. Personally I wouldn't get a laptop, while massively impressive cooling is still some what an issue with ''gaming'' laptops, more often then not with summer coming you likely to get throttled to shyte, keep that in mind.Cooling profiles on these laptops are quite vicious and unforgiving.

You will definitely will need to read and watch reviews on how well they preform cooling wise.Much rather get a desktop with decent mic and camera, some thing the laptop will most likely be average on.

Nothing worse then watching a stream that sound and look like shyte, no matter how entertaining.

^ That's a major point. If you want something with great performance, you need to be aware of the thermal solution employed in what you're looking at. Even these laptops with vapor chambers who's prices are hiked as a result, have throttling issues.

Supposedly this new HP Envy 15 (2020) model that's coming out is very impressive performance for the money. Keep an eye on that one.
 
The new Nvidia 3000 series launch complicates things at my budget I can get a desktop PC with a GTX 3070 and a fairly decent 4K display but it comes with the drawback of not being portable. Right now my current laptop is just about able to chug along and edit 1080p footage but exporting takes ages.

Yeah, I don't get why people want laptops.

If you're moving it around 24/7 then maybe...but you're effectively paying far more for a lot less.
For a content creator you want the most performance that you can possibly get.

But different people do things differently, so maybe Poly likes editing videos while in the pool :)
(Although in that case I'd still get a cheaper laptop that I use as a remote workstation, connecting to your main PC)

Laptops have their place. For most content development or creation it isn't suited to the task, with multi-threading software being common, especially with regards to CPU usage would make any decent laptop a toasty experience and degrade performance as throttling kicks in.

If you going to do video editing go big or go sit next to the pool like poly :D

I don't know why but I feel like a desktop is a luxury product. A powerful laptop you are prepared for all situations and you don't need to get an desktop but if you have a powerful desktop you'll still need the powerful laptop just in case.

Looking at the current cinebench scores of the 10th gen Intel's vs my Haswell seems like a reasonable stopgap until I finally invest on my next "5 year PC"
