EOS-1D Mark IV

I've got a little while before I plateau on my Mk3 - better start saving though :)

Bit of a useless article though if you're not interested in video yet.

Yeah, but it is impressive :) I have no interest in video other than the short clips I do on the G9 from time to time. I'm having a hard enough time coping with the space requirements from still photos!

Waiting for the mythical 3D to be announced (full frame 7D, in my dreams).

Will have to sell my house, car, wife and dog to get one of these. But I want one. No, I NEED one. :o

Canon video presentations here re Image Quality and here re Auto Focus

Interesting it's not called a 1Ds IV - considering that it has an APS-H size sensor.

Can we speculate now that a new range Full Frame 1-Series is next in line for release?

But man she looks nice...

102400 ISO - yikes!

Nice to see Canon's still pushing the boundaries. And that if I see a need to upgrade, there's no shortage of temptation.

I've pegged my limit as a hobbyist at the xxD series. That said the 7D does peek my interest tho. The 5DMkII and the 1DMkIV does make me drool!!! The low noise high ISO awesomeness ... but at the price-point...

Will have to sell my house

I'm in the process of buying one. Won't be getting any camera gear for the next 20yrs :(

Why is it interesting? The 1DsMk3 has a fullframe sensor - the APS-H is the 1.3 crop sensor found on the 1DMk3.

I wonder why they didnt put a FF sensor on it? EDIT: Or did they and I'm just not picking up on it anywhere?

Anyone interested in a 1DMk3 - only two months and 6000 clicks old . . . :D j/k

Apart from the video which is exciting, though more so for others than for me, it's not as big a bump as I would have expected. 16.1mp? Why not FF? Can't they handle the framerate?

Because the 1Ds is the FF body. But yeah, I imagine frame rate is the limiting factor. The Nikon D3 is FF but has a slightly lower frame rate. The volume of data to process also plays a role. 9fps at 12MP is a lot less data than 10fps at 16MP...

Might as well merge the two threads.

So I held a Mark IV today in my hands... what a piece of machine. Unfortunately the card slot was taped shut and was told we could not pry it open to insert a memory card. Product manager from Canon told us that the price looks like it is going to be in the price range of R55 000.

Also played with the 7D and I am pulling the trigger. Will have to go have a much needed talk with the bank manager.

Any visible difference between it and the Mark III?

None at all.

Canon interviewed more than 5000 Pro's and they stated that the Mark III works perfectly for getting the job done, they need a workhorse that is simple and very durable.

If you want gimmicks, extra functions etc. get a 7D.

They spoke to lengths about HD video and from now on all Canon SLR camera's will feature it.
