Background
The current EP Rugby administration under the presidency has run the union into the ground and they are technically bankrupt. Players and staff have not been paid again. Some staff have not been paid for over three months.
Due to the Southern Kings franchise being owned by SARU, they have stepped in and have taken over the runing of the Southern Kings' franchise in its entirety. The EP Rugby Union will have no further dealing with the super rugby franchise.
See here for the SARU press release: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...ion-thread?p=16663403&viewfull=1#post16663403
From the press release:
What about the current players?
Some of the contracted EP Kings players will be offered Southern Kings' contracts. Some will not.
None of the current players will receive any back pay.
Those players not offered Southern Kings' contracts are effectively unemployed and without pay.
What is the EP Rugby Supporters' Club doing?
We have set up a trust fund with a member (an attorney in East London), Gary Gravett, and we are appealing for cash donations.
This will be distributed to the players via a board of trustees that will include a player representative.
Make a donation!! Any amount will be appreciated.
Please note: This is NOT a Watson initiative. It will be transparent and fully audited.

From the press release:
Note to editors: Please note that the six Vodacom Super Rugby franchises are owned by SARU and awarded to host unions at their discretion. In the case of the Southern Kings it is now being hosted at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium and is being run as a separate entity to the Eastern Province Rugby Union or the EP Kings over whose affairs or operations SARU has no bearing.
