Why would they? Valve does not lock anyone into their ecosystem. What can be asked is whether the Steam Community Marketplace can be made interoperable with other ecosystems? Valve won't allow that because it is like a bank's vault, or more like Valve's digital reserve. Then... Fortnite, you see, Epic can't argue against themselves.
Epic can't argue exclusionary practices since they themselves conduct exclusive practices.
Valve has now long pursued to make their service more accessible, as with Steam Link.
I highly doubt that Sweeney will have an arm wrestle with Gabe.
Valve has their own issues with their community marketplace, it is being exploited, and that same exploitation is making Valve very rich. The authorities are watching.
Actually valve has the same practices as google. As a developer on steam bar the 30% cut they take, you can't have your own payment ecosystem, well you can, but you have to give steam a cut of that as well. Also I have it on good authority steam is very likely to reduce the 30% cut they have been taking, epic store front is really making headway, and is becoming a real threat to them, with recent lawsuits and such, valve is really careful about pushing their "luck".
The company I develop content for will be launching on the epic storefront in the new year, as the 30% cut they take is really starting hurt in the long run, that excludes the toxic environment steam has bred and fostered. They have also been making sweeping changes to the way they operate, which to be honest is shyte. Changes include only being able to run 1 sale every 30 days, issues getting them to issuing keys and limiting the number of keys you are able to request.
They really dropped the ball on the keys issue, especially if you want to run promotional campaigns on offsite websites, like gamersgate or greenman gaming ect, or sell keys on your own website, you seriously run the risk of not being able to fulfill orders when doing big promotions and such, you litterally have to take several weeks to stock pile enough keys.
They have dropped the ball on reports, as well as general support and new product approvals and releases as well.
Overall valve has become a bloated and unmanageable shyte show for developers, it is getting harder and harder to be productive on the platform let alone get your dues.

Valve is equally restrictive and monopolizing in app purchases. This industry standard of "30%" cut developers need to pay, is harder and harder for developers to swallow especially with rising costs to do business, their "cut" over the years for me, easily amounts 60-80$ thousand dollars 5-8 thousand a year over the past 10 in "valve tax", and you can't increase your steam prices to compensate for that 30% cut as the users end up revolting against you, you just end up having to swallow the rising costs and take the smaller margin.
Can you imagine if this is how much of a hit small developers take, how this impacts large publishers and studios, they are paying valve tax in the millions, if you think epic wouldn't have the balls to take on valve you will be dead wrong, valve will likely willing to settle out of court as their court case would impact the entire platform, valve is making too much god damn money to be willing to risk it all.....
