ePrinting via Web interface / email should mean that we don't have hassles with printer drivers any longer? Can someone please clarify this?

In theory, yes, in practice (in my experience) the output is not consistently close enough to a native printer driver to ditch the latter quite yet.

Hi BloemGuy, thanks for the info. I guess that low work volumes could also be handled via sneaky networking between the computer and the more modern printers that support removable media such as memory sticks and SD cards?

Well, you must send a file to someone, and tell them to print it on "A4". If you have not got a printer install, you cannot print preview.

I'm not sending it to someone to print but to my own printer. If one exports the file to PDF first and then mail it to the printer, all should be well? I haven't owned a printer for the past decade and printed PDF's at the internet cafe next door on the odd occasion that I needed a hard copy. I was just thinking that web/email printing could make life easier for Linux users in particular? And printing from a smartphone also should be easy?

Most of the big printer brand names have Apps on all the platforms that allow for automatic detection of and printing to their printers. Scanning integration is also available on some.

For remote printing to oher locations, there are also apps to cater for that... Google Chrome users have this functionality built-in, but not used often...

The times they are a-changing...

Sticking with Windows 8 won't prevent trouble - a PC technician just showed me his list of comebacks on 64-bit and printer driver incompatibilities, especially on some HP models.

He also recommends ePrinting instead.
