The Equality Court in Johannesburg today penalised Julius Malema with a cost order because of his failure to submit a plea by the date set by the court.

Malema already should have submitted his plea in the Equality Court procedures instituted by AfriForum by 30 November 2010, but in spite of several reminders, failed to do so.

Today in the South Gauteng High Court, Judge Colin Lamont ordered Malema to submit a plea within three days and in addition ordered Malema to pay the wasted legal expenses of AfriForum, including the fees of a junior and a senior advocate.

AfriForum’s legal representative, Willie Spies, stated in response that Malema has to get the message that he is not above the law.

The case will be heard in court from 11 April 2011, with or without Malema’s plea.

Afriforum will go ahead with its public campaign to garner national support against the hate speech of Malema.

About time he is brought back to size.
 
This guy is still walking around free like a groot kokkedoor. And let's face it... the only time he is going to see any kind of punitive action is if the ANC wants him to see punitive action. There is no longer any impartiality of the judicial system in SA or the criminal justice system.
 
What's the worst that will happen to him if he doesn't pay? A slap on the wrist and a half hearted press statement from the ANC who will raise funds to pay his fines. That's how it works with the ANC big wigs. Malema is above the law.

To be honest I don't care if he gets away without paying the fine, I want that bloody song banned and the first idiot who sings it in Jail.

ANC Youth League president Julius Malema was given a final three-day extension to file papers relating the “shoot the boer” hate speech compliant lodged against him, the Equality Court ruled on Wednesday.

Judge Collin Lamont said the trial had to go ahead in April no matter what.

“That is immutable. This is not going to be postponed or crowded out, it is running.”

Lobby group Afriforum lodged a complaint in the Equality Court last year after Malema included the lyrics in political songs sung at events across the country. The group believed it encourages the murder of farmers and Afrikaners.

The court heard from Malema's counsel Mahlape Sello that there had been confusion over the e-mail address for correspondence sent to Malema's legal team, hence papers were not filed on time.

The Equality Court usually sits in the magistrate's court but, was moved to the High Court in Johannesburg due to national interest. - Sapa

haha... get used to Malema's lawyer's making a whole bunch of stupid excuses and delaying this by years until it fades away into obscurity.

No not really, however if one or two idiots can end up being locked up then it would be awesome, but you are right come to think about it, they will just find new ways to play delayed tactics. Its an ANC thing.
 
They should have prostituted him, and force him to live off that income alone. He would surely perish ...

...a few Youth League supporters may have a Melema-fetish, though, but I don't think he'll be that popular. [-]Gogo[/-] Ntate Mugabe could be another potential source of income for him. :twisted:

Julius' BEE lawyer just cost him a pretty penny.

If I were him, I'd get myself the real McCoy in legal representation ;)

Yeah, it's probably going to become a viral ringtone now. Like Mshini Wami.

The more focus it gets, the more popular it's going to get... sadly this goes over some people's heads.
