Does anyone know how to make an Ericsson w890i Phone work as a modem with Windows XP?

Internet kind-of works on the phone. It's insanely slow, but I can browse.

Internet worked ONCE through the Sony software that was bundled with the phone.

Now, I plug the phone in to the USB port, set it to "Phone" mode and watch as Windows "Acquires" a network address on the new LAN connection that Sony's software mysteriously conjours up.

That network connection eventually gives up and remains "partially connected" for forever.

Also, if I unplug the phone and plug it back in, Windows doesn't detect it at all... unless I restart before plugging it in again.

Any ideas?

Do I *have* to use Sony's software, is there any other way?

Dial a new connection using *99# with no username and no password, ah wait not sure if this will work via USB, but it works using it as a Bluetooth modem so just try i guess:o

In the bottom Righthand Corner of your Screen.

Bluetooth works the same except you Query the Bluetooth DUN modem or Bluetooth Modem. And when you creating the connection you select only the Bluetooth DUN modem or Bluetooth Modem.

Sometimes the with Bluetooth it also comes up as Standard Modem over Bluetooth Link depending on the Bluetooth Software you are using.

Good evening, I tried the above steps, I wanted to know how can I get the phone to connect with 3G, and will it automatically use my data bundle points or will it charge airtime.

Thanking you in advance

If you haven't bought a data bundle then it will take the credit off your airtime.

I'm interested in getting this phone on a Vodacom Top Up contract. Could anyone tell me if the HSDPA works in S.A with this phone? Thanks.

Ideally, I would prefer a Nokia 5800 Express, but the pay in on a Top Up is too much for my pocket :p

Maybe get someone to bring one in. They are going for less than £120 PAYG ATM.

Yep, but I still can't afford it :o. Do you know if the W890I' HSDPA works here? I see on S.A sites the text say up to three hundred and eighty four kilobytes per second (384 in other words :p)
