Did you install the drivers from a clean install, that is, uninstalled VMC and any other 3G related software? Before installing the drivers that is ...
Did you do the firmware update on WIN XP ... ?
Here is what I have done thus far this morning ( as I have read somewhere online that vodacom shop guys cant fix this problem )
I have downloaded the new firmware for the e220 and put it on a flash drive
I have removed and uninstalled all vodafone software from the windows 7 pc. Thus it was clean.
I then copied the firm ware update via the flash drive to my main drive on my windows 7 pc - I removed the e220 sim card and updated the firmware to the modem.
When this was finished....I disconnected the e220 modem and inserted the sim again.
I then connected the modem to the windows 7 pc again - it picked it up once again as a mass storage and cd drive. when the pop up come on screen asking to run the vmc software I left it open.
I then opened device manager on the windows 7 pc and performed the following steps:
- Connected the E220 – Windows 7 will only recognized a new USB Mass Storage Device and a CD drive.
- Open the Device Manager
- looked for “Universal Serial Bus controllers” Section and under that USB Mass Storage Device
- I kept the device manager open, disconnected the E220 and saw the MAss Storage disappear. I connected it again and saw it reappear – so I knew which one to play with
- Right clicked on the Mass Storage Device and selected “Update Driver Software”
- Selected “Browse my Computer”
- Selected the “Let me pick” section at the bottom
- Unticked the “Show compatible devices” option
- Selected “(Standard USB Host Controller)” in the Manufacturer Tab (near the top of the list)
- Selected “USB Composite Device” in the Model Tab (on the right side)
- Clicked on NEXT to finish installation
It then picked up the E220 as a modem and said the driver is intallled.
On the device manager window it showed that the modem still has a yellow exclamation mark. When I double clicked it it said that the device driver is not installed correctly.....however below that it said that windows required a restart for the changes to take effect.
Thus i restarted the pc and then installed the vmc software....
It then loaded the dashboard and showed 3G to which I then clicked connect ( which then remained greay and no connection happened)
I then reopened device manager in windows and the yellow exclamation mark was there again saying the drivers is not installed for the modem.
This is what I have done up to this point.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated guys.
