Just got this error today.

Was busy playing mirrors edge when the screen went funny with green lines running vertically down & up it (kinda like matrix style).
So I turned the xbox off for 5 mins and then turned it back on. All looked ok for five mins again then I had the same thing but blue lines.
Restarted again and then got a black screen with the "E74 error" showing with 1 red light (not RROD).

Apparently according to google and Microsoft, my graphics card is buggered and needs to be replaced in Germany!

Luckily Microsoft will pay for UPS shipping and the repairs. So no charge to me even though it's over 1 year old. But it can take up to 3 weeks.

I think it's mentioned in the Xbox FAQ in this section .......

E74 Error is covered under a 3 year warranty:)

good luck mate, but u can also go through the local POWERCARE nightmare assuming they received stock

Yeah. I saw that. Thank goodness.

Microsoft is being really great about it. They told me UPS will collect it from my house, courrier it to the repair centre in Germany and then deliver it to my door in 2 weeks at no cost to me. That's impressive customer service.

You have another reason to be thankful you live in the UK, you might see your replacement unit this year.

Yeah, they do it properly over there. :/

The E74 is pretty much, for all intents and purposes, the same as an RRoD. It's a general hardware failure, caused by overheating (specifically, damage to the GPU scaler chip). Only really been around since NXE came out, so dun dun duuuun, tinfoil hats.

My Xbox E74ed on me while I was playing Fallout 3. Terrible timing. I managed to get it swapped out in three days, though, because I'm with the press. :3

They'll swap out the board and replace the DVD-ROM. You'll at least have a working console.

So nice that they have a 'refurbishment policy' over there :D
