My E272 modem that was always reliable, is now detected as a USB Mass Storage device. I've tried to upgrade the firmware using the E272Update_11.311.04.01.00.B402 file on the Vodacom sie. The upgrade wizard detects the devvice, but fails at the stage of "Banking up Users current firmware". I can access the modem via Explorer.

Does anyone have any idea what doing wrong? Is there a workaround?

thanks

Did you remove the sim when you tried doing the firmware? Leaving the sim in can make the upgrade bomb out and I dont know how to recover the modem from that. Happened to one of my E220 modems.

Oops! I did leave it in. I'll try it with the sim out. I hope its ok...

No joy I'm afraid. With the sim card removed I get the same message as before 'Backup Users Data Failure'.

If it is basically stuffed, what do I do, take it to Vodacom?

Please PM me the IMEI number. I will check if it is still under warranty. If it is, then take it to a Vodacare and request that they load the latest firmware on for you. Waiting for your PM.

Has anything on your PC changed? Are you still using the same PC, the same OS and the same USB port?

Try the trick described here.

thanks for the input. I've tried the same process with another e272 modem (but with taking the sim out at the beginning!). For some reason its now recognised as a modem in device manager. I still get get the same error message however, something about failing to update the firmware.

Since I can access the modem via explorer, cna't I just copy the new drivers onto the modem, if I could unpack them from the installation file? Alternatively, perhpas there is somewhere that I can just download the drivers themselves from, without the wizard?
