Someone mentioned on here that they steal the spare tyres from underneath bakkies. I made a mental note to put a lock on mine but never got to it. Out of interest last night I checked up on my spare and surprise! it has vanished.

Haha, sheeet I love this country.
Can I get an entire new tyre with the RIM anywhere other than Ford (it's a Ranger)?

The Ford dealership I used to go to in Midrand had every single one of their rangers spare tyres stolen in one evening... My dad's has been stolen as well and he's just had it replaced - can't tell you what it cost him though.

Same thing happened to my dad's old Hilux, cut through the lock and cord while he spent 15 minutes in a Brits supermarket. Found a brand new spare wheel replacement in a scrap yard for not much money.

There are ford scrapyards at:

139 Vom Hagen St Ford & Mazda Bakkie Spares)

309 Waltloo Rd (Protech)

Trying the scrap yard route first. Ford is asking R1.5K for the rim, so with the tyre probably looking at R6K. Just after Christmas too D:

My dad got the the rim and tyre both brand new for just over R1,000 IIRC, though he was mates with the yard owner (who isn't around anymore unfortunately).

What kind of tyres do you use that they cost R4500 each?

Yeah, R4,500 is a bit excessive.

Yay found one at a scrap yard! Less than R1K - praise Cthulhu for blessing me with his tentacles!

Looks like the spare tyres are being recycled between scrap yards and bakkie owners.
