eSIM + Samsung Watch

I have an existing MTN contract and want to get an eSIM for my watch. According to MTN this isn't possible and can only be done when signing up for a new contract, which seems silly. Is this correct?

Should I simply get a prepaid eSIM elsewhere and is it even worth bothering in the first place?
