Eskom asks for reduced tariff increase

Ah yes, now we back-peddle, just like when its negotiating with striking workers and unions.
 
Standard modus operandi. Request exorbitant increase, let Joe Public get hot under the collar, request "reduced" increase that is actually the increase you originally wanted, Joe Public goes "pfew much better", profit.

Ah. But they never intended to get 12.7% in the first place. Its just like negociating Development deadlines. You know it will take 2 weeks. You tell them 3. They negociate you down to 2 and feel superior. You do it in 1 and spend a week testing.

Standard South African Politics in action. They want X, ask for Y that they know will not be approved, then drop their requirements to X. I mean - do you really think they plan to drop the speed limit to 40 km/h? But they really want to limit heavy vehicles during certain hours.

This is the increase on top of the increase they already got for this year right?

They already got 12.something. Hence the additional 12.something they wanted would be the 25.something which was in the news.

So if they get this 9.something.....they will still have got 20+% for the year.
