Great then go to squatter camps and rip out all illegal connections - let's see how well that goes down
Pretty sure that if they do that they would also have to allow 3rd party power producers.Even the measures Eskom have said they're undertaking in this article are not enough. They're trying to give fines to the criminals they catch in the act of tampering with transformers. Sure... they have been actively stealing electricity from you but they will deffo pay that fine Andre.
When the transformer explodes just don't repair it. Eskom has already admitted in this article that they don't get back their investment in that area... so no more power.
Only operate where it is profitable to do so.
As to illegal transformers... send the police with the Eskom techies and shoot/arrest anyone that impedes them. Anything else is just wasted effort.
Sure. Let some other group deal with the mess inside that area. Eskom clearly can't.Pretty sure that if they do that they would also have to allow 3rd party power producers.

As to illegal transformers.
When there are no consequences why not just get an illegal connection. There are people who can afford to pay but get an illegal connection anyway. There was that article a while ago about those people in that rich housing estate where most of them had illegal connections.
Another 38% increase and only illegal connections will be able to "afford" it anyways. Now bring on those new fixed charges for just having a legal connection. When there are no consequences why not just get an illegal connection.
I can also understand getting an illegal connection on moral grounds at this point. If one feels that one shouldn't contribute to Eskom's obvious corruption and inefficiencies, but also can't afford solar, or can't even afford the constant above inflation increases... or even feels one shouldn't have to pay for solar because Eskom should have been run correctly in the first place.
If it goes up 38% then I will be one of the illegal conenctors as well...When in Rome/South Zimbabwe...Another 38% increase and only illegal connection will be able to "afford" it anyways. Now bring on those new fixed charges for just having a legal connection.
Me too I need to find out how to hack it. If you can`t beat them then join them. The truth is electricity thievery is not crime in SA.If it goes up 38% then I will be one of the illegal conenctors as well...When in Rome/South Zimbabwe...

If your connection is illegal why would you go solar?Me too I need to find out how to hack it. If you can`t beat them then join them. The truth is electricity thievery is not crime in SA.
This problem is there will be more load-shedding, so how do you have electricity then? Solar is not an option because of solar tariffs and new fixed taxes.
Yes you are right, I can easily afford a few EcoFlows with money saved from thievery. I am new to this thieving SA culture thing, still lots to learn. The problem is that Eskom will also probably have stage 20 and 3 weeks off time in the near future. If your connection is illegal why would you go solar?
Just run some batteries to get through the loadshedding periods. Who cares if your batteries pull down massive amounts of energy to recharge from the grid when your supply is back. It's not like you're paying for the electricity.
