Eskom explains massive price hike

Eskom COO Calib Cassim acknowledges that a hefty electricity price hike in 2025 will likely result in fewer consumers connecting to the grid and increased non-payment rates. However, he says the power utility has no choice.

This is because of Eskom's open tender processes, which have already been completed for operational aspects such as coal procurement for the next financial year.
 
Considering that we know, that load shedding in the early 2000's was never necessary and only created to allow Eskom to crook the tenders book. I have no confidence in the government, and especially Eskom that load shedding was ever necessary, the ANC plays both teams like a pro, they are if nothing else master manipulators. Getting off grid is the only viable long term solution. You do not owe this government a thing, stop acting like they have carte Blanche to do as they please. Not only does the constitution guarantee your rights, they make any law that the government makes up of zero force and effect if it violates the constitution, laws like AARTO and NHI both violate the constitution and their only power is the idiots obeying them.

That goes back to Eskom cancelling cheap long term contracts they had since some of the plants opened to buy from "small companies" instead :mad:

So firstly you have the high level thieves like the Guptas, then you have the mid level thieves like the Eskom employees, and lastly you have people stealing electricity because they are too poor to pay.

Sadly I think the money isn't going to appear chief.
 
Funny seeing the CFO admit that Eskom is on its way out because it's in a death spiral.
 
Look at it from a different perspective ESDOM spelled wrong.
Should be ANC. The fnked up now we have to pay.
When last have you seen bailout money from government.

Your coal power generation is now actually diesel generation.

You've not built decent generation at a reasonable cost for 30yrs. You've not curbed the corruption and crime in eskom and hence my answer is

Yeah get bent Calib.

Publish all of Eskoms awarded tenders and prices paid etc etc and open the books entirely so we can all see just how much corruption is still ongoing.
 
This reads like a game of snakes and ladders. When really, according to what was clear to see for the previous 15 years, the real problem is wet coal. That's all they told us, so that must be the real problem.

And anyway. The likes of the luminary and esteemed Gwede McTushface have been pushing coal for so long. He said nothing else will work. So there! The fat cadre has sung!

Can't fool me. Well... Screw them. And Whatever. I'm already of the opinion that:

A: These prices will kill Eskom
B: That's probably for the best
