Eskom - Collecting Old Debt

It's over 5 years ago. We have asked for a full statement of account months a number of times, and they keep insisting that we go in. It's just supremely frustrating because it's so long ago. They won't even let us know what the amount due is. If it's our due, that's fine. I just feel like they are taking the piss out of us.
Sounds like they are taking a chance, if you rightfully owe the money there is no reason to withhold this information. Maybe because you guys are so good at paying they think they can sponge off you for what was owed previously...

Prescription doesn't apply if the debtor acknowledges a debt or makes any payment towards the debt as that would interrupt the prescription. The OP would need to provide details of how long ago they paid the account, when it was settled, on what basis it was settled and when the new account was opened and if any correspondence or communication regarding the old account has been made since and also what period these new charges relate to. Also, if there was any condition relating to the pre-occupation as part of the offer to purchase.

No they don't, the onus is on Eskom first to prove that there is debt, after that the OP can prove that he paid it off.

Unless we know the facts we cannot give a proper opinion now can we? If Eskom produces billing and an account that's sufficient. I'm trying to be helpful but OK you obviously have considered everything. Case closed.
